В книгу войдут воспоминания Элтона Джона о друзьях, жизнь которых унес СПИД. В частности, о Райане Уайте, который стал символом борьбы с ВИЧ/СПИДом в США, а также о фронтмене Queen Фредди Меркьюри.
Уже сейчас издание позиционируется как «очень личная история жизни сэра Элтона во время эпидемии СПИДа, в том числе его агонии, когда он видел, как один за другим уходят из жизни его друзья».
Книга поступит в продажу в июле 2012 года одновременно с 19-й Международной конференцией по СПИДу, которая состоится в Вашингтоне. Книга также выйдет в аудио версии, текст начитает сам автор.
Средства, вырученные от продаж, будут переданы в благотворительный фонд борьбы со СПИДом, созданный Элтоном Джоном.

As The New York Times reported this morning, I am very pleased to announce to all supporters of the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) that Sir Elton John will be publishing a book – Love Is the Cure: Ending the Global AIDS Epidemic – about his personal experiences in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit the Foundation.
As you know, EJAF focuses its resources on HIV prevention, stigma eradication, and service programs benefitting people who are most at risk of HIV infection and who have been stigmatized, marginalized, and left behind by governments and societies across the globe. Our programs compassionately engage with people in need by respecting the realities of their circumstances and preserving their dignity.
Elton’s book will highlight these important aspects of EJAF’s approach to the fight against HIV/AIDS. In addition, through stories of his personal encounters with people like Ryan White, Freddie Mercury, and many others, Elton will convey the personal toll AIDS has taken on his life and how this loss has strengthened his determination to stop the spread of the disease.
“This is a disease that must be cured not by a miraculous vaccine, but by changing hearts and minds, and through collective effort to break down social barriers and to build bridges of compassion,” Elton writes. “Why are we not doing more? This is a question I have thought deeply about, and wish to answer – and to help change – by writing this book.”
The book will be published by Little, Brown and Company in July 2012 to coincide with the 2012 XIX International AIDS Conference to be held in Washington, DC. The audio book will be read by Elton and published simultaneously by Hachette Audio. Hodder & Stoughton will publish simultaneously in the UK. We will provide further information as it becomes available.
